Shut Down Etiquette
Keven:
I re-licensed after a 30 year break and I was wondering what the shut down etiquette is. I have heard several different explanations on who exits the track first. Is there a correct way, right lane, left lane, winner, loser, whoever is out front after the chute is out?

no rules per say, safety first because of too many variables.
Inside lane to the turnoff should have control of the situation, if he does not see the outside car, then its his lane. If you see the outside car, then you follow that car, if that car does not make the first turnout, you have the option of takening it or following him to the second turnout. Never in the outside lane should you just make the turn crossing over the other lane unless directed to by track personal

I put together a procedure, start to finish, and shutdown, for a potential driver awhile back, and this how I saw that situation. This was for a particular track.
THE TURNOFF DIRECTION IS TO THE LEFT, SO EASE TO THE RIGHT OF YOUR LANE SO THAT YOU DON'T HAVE TO TURN SO SHARP TO MAKE THE U-TURN AT THE END OF THE TRACK.
IF YOU ARE IN THE LEFT LANE AND NOBODY RAN AGAINST YOU, THEN IT'S OK TO GO TO THE RIGHT LANE JUST BEFORE YOU TURN OFF, AGAIN SO YOU CAN MAKE A WIDER U-TURN
INSTEAD OF A SHARP ONE. IF THERE WAS SOMEBODY RUNNING IN THE RIGHT LANE, DON'T GO THERE UNLESS HE /SHE /IT IS ALREADY IN FRONT OF YOU AND YOU CAN SEE THAT
HE CAN'T HIT YOU. IF YOU CAN'T SEE HIM, DON'T GO IN HIS LANE.
Any comments on that are invited. I would prefer to give myself and anyone who might drive my car the best advice. I have never seen this covered exactly by the rules.
janjon:
And that would be "per se".
Just being a di**head here...
Regards to all,
John
