Loctite 577

(1/1)

retroboy:
Howdy
Is Loctite 577 suitable for use with methanol?
Cheers

Spud Miller:

Is the part being "locked" submersed full time in methanol? Just get occasionally wet with methanol? Or is it just used in the proximity of methanol?

I don't really know right off if methanol dissolves or degrades the effectiveness, but I'm sure the last two scenarios above are fine. As quick as methanol evaporates, I don't think it would cause an issue. In the first case however, I doubt the loctite would stick around long.

retroboy:
577 is a thread sealer, just thinking about the small leak I have from the 3/4 npt fitting in the bottom of my tank. My concern is more about blocking nozzels and so on rather than it washing away.

Spud Miller:

Ah, gotcha. If you can get it dry completely, I'd use epoxy on it. At that point it's semi-permanent however. You can usually crack it loose later if you're determined. Most thread sealers are going to be dissolved in the methanol though.
