lets talk helmets

Dolmetsch:
I am very happy with mine. Just gave it the severe test two weeks ago. No issues despite the beating I took. Wish they had helmuts for your back and spine. Even more padding under my bum would have paid dividends.

Reread  thread about tire shake at mid track.I know the issue of helmet getting looser over time. It is now my rain weather motorcycle helmet, whcih a cop told me was not legal since no dot tag.

The Gforce carbon fiber may be look like CF but is advertised as carbon fiber and SA2010. Not sure what it takes to meet rating and some mya go above and beyond. If looking at simpson 500 regular and 800 CF I would even think about the CF 250 and 400 are little closer and I had 400 to 500 figured as what I would have to spend.  As stated cheaper does scare me at times. Been told I'm hard headed(i call it determined) still not looking to test it.

On one hand I am looking at lighter, hopefully stronger and less cost.On the other hand I know its good stuff and have worn Simpson Bandit helmet for as long as I can remember.

Roo, ya Bud had a Bandit until it certed out, and he had problems with eyeglasses too, most of the time he didn't wear his glasses. When he bought a new helmet he bought the more rounded shape Simpson that had eyeglass stem grooves, and a bigger eye port. Much better, maybe the later models have those feature.
Roo, you may be able to fix your eye glass issue if you can peel the Nomex liner back abit and cut a groove in the styraform looking liner. Second best if you can't peel the liner off, you can push the styreen liner with a spoon to crush it enough for eyewear stem clearance. When the M/C helmet guys show up at the road races, they have tools to custom fit helmets to those fussy riders. Like steel balls, rounded spoon looking tools. etc. And they keep fine tuning the helmets until they really fit, and are comfortable.
It's too bad the SA Snell helmets don't come with removable/ washable liners like most of the motorcycle helmets. One thing is you could modify the liners easy, and of course wash your stinky liners. Also the removable liners come in sizes so if you guess wrong on your size, you can buy a better fitting liner.

Cheers,
Jon

One trick 'modifying' the foam in a helmet if needed for eye glasses, is a screen door installation tool.  Works great, doesn't cut the liner, and compresses foam.

Had two guys tell me they had lasic and had to dial.03 more into delaybox. Going to see at what point that is best.Just starting to have to hold things away some to read. I'll go for lasic and avoid class' and get .03 quicker.Ok myabe not pickup the same but avoiding headache of glass' would make it worth it.
