PS.: I don't have a problem with silicone, but, conditions permitting, I prefer them au naturel. Call me a purist if you want. ;-)

My dad retores Model A Fords last 50 years--he HATES silicone and never uses it --on that application he is right --do it old school--he is a Fink for perfect clean no burr gasket surfaces--won't even allow paint on gasket surface--butthe threads that hate on the goo puzzle me---I love the stuff!!!!

 I think the problem is the extreme over usage of RTV, not just an outright hate of the stuff. It gets slathered on way to heavily in a lot of applications, some that wouldn't even need it. If you've got dingleberries of the stuff hanging out after you tighten the parts together, you're using it wrong.
