Just to clear the air...the National Dirt Racing League (NDRL) has ceased all operations as of last week in its sophomore season. A couple of worried phone calls and texts have came in and I assure you it has nothing to do with the Nostalgia Drag Racing League. We are alive and well and planning the nostalgia assault on Norwalk next week. If you watched any of the big show action from this weekend, you'll see that Norwalk is a must attend event. Bill (PT Barnum) Bader will have the best that he can offer laid out for all the racers and fans making for a great experience.

Growing pains for Summit Motorsports Park

 Bader's considering looking to move the Norwalk track elsewhere.

After 51 years, 2014 might mark the final lap for Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk.

Park president Bill Bader Jr. told the Register he plans on deciding by October whether or not he’ll leave his family’s legendary race track in favor of another location.

All summer long, Summit Motorsports Park hosts weekly races, highlighted by the marquee NHRA Summit Racing Equipment Nationals occurring this weekend.

“The reality is we have outgrown our campus,” Bader said. “We have been here since 1963, and who would have thought we would generate $100 million (in regional economic impact) a year and draw half a million visitors a year? It’s not anyone’s fault. We just don’t see any immediate relief.”

In the past months, Bader’s met with planning officials in Erie and Lorain counties about available spaces for a possible racetrack.

“We need to find a parcel of ground that can accommodate our growth needs,” Bader said. “I’m going to make a decision during the next 60 to 90 days.”

As an added item, dragway 42 was purchased by an individual who rivals Bill Sr in terms of wealth [Me-Good friends with both owners and an old guy looking forward to his pension-1yr] 42 will be a National Event quality track, both in terms of track and facilities. Will remain IHRA, even though The owner is a successful NHRA class racer! 42 will not reopen until the 2015 season, as there have been numerous construction issues. Check out the Dragway 42 web site for more info. 42 and Norwalk [Summit Motorsports Park] are less than 50 miles apart currently. If a move,as outlined in the news article, were to take place; they would be CLOSER !
