Noise from a Mallory Super Mag?

We are running a Mallory super mag on our car with the external coil. We fired the car the other day and all worked well,except it seemed to me to make a lot of noise from the mag. Basically a loud whirring sound (somewhat like a card in the spokes of a bike).
This is the first time the mag has been used since it was rebuilt. I am probably being worried for nothing.

Hi John, a mag can be fairly noisy at low speed as it resists turning and then pulls itself around... It hammers back and forth 8 times per rev. If there's a bunch of clearance in the drive connection, it can make a racket. By 2000 rpm or so, it should load in one direction and quiet down. You might look under the cap and just check that things are happy inside.  Spud

Thank you. I figured I was just being paranoid.
The last mag we used was a small Vertex no noticable noise.
We are going to run the car this weeekend at Orlando Speedworld. It should be fun trying to figure out a starting point for the tune-up. We are used to running around 3500ft elevation vs sea-level.

Another thing to look at is the coupler between the generator and base and weather the plastic one has been changed to a solid aluminum or phenolic.  If you do have the red plastic version you would be wise to buy a spare as I and others have had them crack (its been awhile tho)before.

We have a brand new mag base made by Dunn Services with the nylon drive.
