(1/1)

10.0 dragster, wanted a chute just in case of a complete brake failure, ordered a 12ft crossform from jegs, my buddy say's it's going to lift up the rear...I only run low 130's :o....thanks in advance

With a 12 footer you are starting to get into nostalgia top fuel territory. An 8' or 10' will be plenty for your car.

Is it true the chutes like a Stroud --I guess a trifold  looking --open much softer
Does that matter on a mid low 8 sec FED? I wound up with a 10 ft Simpson crossform as I found a new one kept as a spare for a pro--got a killer deal on it
Was just hoping it would not be like hitting a wall.....
Many years racing just no chute experience
Thanks for your time and input on here, helping us Rookies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

CJ, yes 12 ' seems big for your 130 mph car. One thing to keep-in-mind is you can "tune" a chute by adjusting where all the lines come together. BY chocking the lines you make the chute act smaller, because it's catching less air. Also keep-in-mind Garlits stopped driving because of eye problems from de-acceleration from chutes. Use common sense here.
I adjusted my 1'st chute on my 60's nitro JrFueler, so it would stop soon enough but not throwing me into my belts. At some tracks I raced in the MidWest, I opened it up more because of short shut downs.

Have fun !
